Code: MOT-MCL-0021
Unsymmetrical Cantilever Apparatus.
Examines and displays bending of unsymmetrical cantilevers
Experiments
Investigations into bending of unsymmetrical cantilevers, including:
Vertical and horizontal displacement measurement for varying angles of applied load
Demonstration that maximum and minimum vertical deflection occurs when horizontal
deflection is zero
Use of Mohr’s circle
Experimental and theoretical determination of the principal moments of area of test
sections
Location of shear centre of each section
Specifications
Top Chuck holds the “fixed” end of the beam. Can be rotated through 360º in 22.5º
increments
Bottom plate holds 2x Digital Dial Indicators
o Set at 90º to each other to perform unsymmetrical bending experiments (Mohr’s Circle,
second moments of area)
o Set parallel for Shear Centre experiments (with extension piece)
